Register for Clean Up Australia Day

1 March, 2015

Clean Up Australia Day is celebrating 25 years of volunteer service for the environment. This year on Sunday 1 March it is on again with many Scouts already registered to help out. Last year, thanks to an estimated 572,406 volunteers the event managed to clean up 15,708 tonnes at 7,140 sites across Australia.

To participate in this great environmental service activity you need to:

  1. identify a site in your neighbourhood that needs cleaning up and register it.
  2. You will then be sent a cleanup kit.
  3. Clean Up Australia ask that you to allow two weeks to receive the kit.

If you are not sure you want to register your own site you can join another group who has a site a registered near you. Also, if the date just doesn’t suit you can get involved with an Every Day Cleanup and do it any time of year.

To find out more or register your event, visit www.cleanupaustralia.org.au

Clean up Australia Day can also contribute to earning the Landcare Badge. Three environmental service activities, including Clean up Australia Day and National Tree, need to be completed in a 12 month period. Badges are available from the Scout Shop. There is no need to register you intentions but we would love to know what you have been up to, including photos, if you achieve this badge. Please email us at nat.marcomms@scouts.com.au and let us know how you go.
